The 12TH CEC Assembly
The CEC Assembly, held every six years, brings together about 700
people from all Christian confessions and from all over Europe.
There will be 350 official delegates from CEC’s 126 member churches,
and about an equal number of other participants (representatives of
ecumenical bodies and partner organisations, staff, media people
etc.). They come to meet in fellowship, to pray and worship, to
study the Bible, to reflect together and celebrate under a common
theme. The theme for this Assembly is Jesus Christ Heals and
Reconciles – Our Witness in Europe.
The theme
The delegates will also review CEC’s work over the past six
years, and identify the main tasks and priorities for the future – a
vital responsibility today as the ecumenical movement and Europe
itself are facing major new challenges.
But the Assembly is not only for official delegates: individual
visitors and groups from Christian congregations are welcome, and a
special programme will be organised for them. This includes hearings
on various themes, cultural events, concerts and a rich "torg" (the
Norwegian word for "market place") with information booths
and exhibitions.
This is the first time a CEC Assembly has been held in a Nordic
country, and it will be the largest ecumenical event to have taken
place in Scandinavia for many years. Norway with its neighbouring
countries and the wider European Christian family will enrich and
inspire each other through this Assembly.
